Backing and adhesive technologies help maximize ceramic abrasive life

Walter Surface Technologies has launched three new technologies designed to maximize the life of its ceramic abrasives.
SMART RESIN technology, found in bonded abrasives such as the ZIP XX and the XCAVATOR XX, works to expose fresh ceramic grains when needed in an application to achieve a productive balance between sharpness and life.
V-STRONG backing technology, found in the company’s ceramic sanding discs such as the XTRACUT and the COOLCUT XX, offers a strong cloth with 14% more vulcanized fiber than competitors, the manufacturer states. This helps improve wheel durability and toughness for longer-lasting sanding discs and fewer wheel changeovers.
MAX LIFE cold-curing glue helps ensure fresh abrasives on products such as the ENDURO-FLEX Turbo. Baking is not needed to bond the flaps to the backing, which prevents the discs from microcracking and drying out and can extend disc life by up to 25%, the company states.
