Star Cutter Co. aluminum, iron core drills are optimized per application

Star Cutter Co. has introduced solid-carbide core drills that are custom-designed and built per application for aluminum and iron, including CGI.

Based upon review and input from the company’s design team, decisions are made regarding the number of flutes (three or four), edge prep, material grade, and coating so that each drill is optimized per specific requirements.

Used for both enlarging and finishing holes from a castings core pin condition, these core drills cut straight holes that correct shifts in a cored hole location, which can occur during the casting process.

These drills also are used to prepare holes for a second pass in tight-tolerance reaming, optimizing the hole size and location results.

Designed for use with coolant or minimum quantity lubrication, they also have a drill point that is machined from either a solid part or a cored condition. These tools can be reground multiple times.

Available in diameters starting at 8 mm, each drill order should be accompanied by casting and tool layout prints. Multiple diameter step core drill options also are available.
